Jesse Fischer
Photographer and Graphic Artist, Jesse Fischer began by making his own zines in the early-mid eighties. Skate/Punk Mag in 1983, followed by Slime Zine in ’84. Deeply entrenched in the cultures of punk and skateboarding, he went to shows, took photos of bands, skaters and kids in the scene. He did interviews, cut and pasted it together and then photocopied it at his dad’s work. He and his girlfriend sold them at school and at punk shows for a quarter. Ironically he titled himself ‘Art Director’ at just 13 years old, on the mastheads of those zines. As it turned out, a decade later he went on to become the actual Art Director for one of the biggest independent record labels in history, punk stalwart Epitaph Records. Prior to working full time at Epitaph, he was at Thrasher Magazine from 1991-1994 working in the darkroom and as a staff photographer. Jesse continues to shoot photographs around the world and has recently begun working on a new project of portraits.
